NOTICE FROM THEATRE ESPRIT ASIA CASTING CALL – LOOKING IMMEDIATELY PLEASE REPLY IF INTERESTED TO: This is an AMAZING opportunity…working w Jose Mercado and working w lead singer of Ozomatli.  They need one Asian male 16-30 for the part of an Asian dream activist.  Does not have to be professional or even amateur actor for the right person, he’s willing to work with the person.  Schedule: Feb readings w/ director.  Rehearsals in March, 4 days/week 6-9pm. Performances on Feb 21, 22 at North High School. Dreaming Sin Fronteras Stories of Immigration and American Identity Adapted & Directed by Jose Antonio Mercado Music by Shawn King, Raul Pacheco & Ceci Bastida  Dreaming Sin Fronteras is a multicultural stage production with live original music and narratives from actual Dreamers. Actors perform the narratives and Grammy winning and nominated professional musicians perform the music. The world premier production in Denver will feature Los Angeles vocalist Raul Pacheco of the Grammy Award winning Ozomatli and Grammy nominee Ceci Bastida of Tijuana No, the first Mexican punk band.   In addition to performing, Ms. Bastida and Mr. Pacheco, both pioneers in the music industry, will conduct student workshops on contemporary Latino music. Dreaming Sin Fronteras will work actively with U.S. Senator Michael Bennet’s Office and Denver Public Schools, the nation’s fastest growing urban school district, and their Office of Multicultural Outreach to ensure students outreach. Mercado has a remarkable track record with marketing as his work has been featured in the Denver Post, Westword, 5280 Magazine, Denver Business Journal, 9News, Telemundo, Univision and KCRWs Colorado Matters. Artist Bios Jose Antonio Mercado (Director) is a professor at CU Denver where he’s directed Blood Wedding, All in the Timing, and The Comedy of Errors.  Prior to CU, Mercado ran the theater program at North High School, directing Zoot Suit, the first high school to play at the Buell Theatre.   He was named one of 150 Colorado Unsung Heroes and nominated for the Mayor’s Award for Excellence in the Arts.  Appointed by then Mayor John Hickenlooper, he served five years as Commissioner for Cultural Affairs and has served on several panels for the NEA and the President’s National Endowment for the Humanities. Shawn King is perhaps best known as the drummer and trumpeter of DeVotchka, who in 2006 composed the lush score for Little Miss Sunshine, earning a Grammy nomination for Best Soundtrack.   Amidst a busy touring schedule in the US and Europe, DeVotchka is approaching the release of a new studio record. Raul Pacheco is an East Los Angeles native Chicano that sings and plays guitar for Three-time Grammy Winning “Culture Mashers” Ozomatli.  The proud Papa of two left a promising career as an author specializing in Chicano political history.  Mr. Pacheco, as enjoys mixing politics with music and vice a versa.  He has sung his songs in 47 countries as an official US State Department Cultural Ambassador and recently delved into the world of movie, TV and video game composition. Ceci Bastida is a Grammy nominated vocalist, formerly of Tijuana No!, the famed Mexican ska, rockand punk band.
