In celebration of the Filipino History Month, the National Federation of the Filipino American Associations (NaFFAA) Region V is holding its Filipiniana 2018 Gala to benefit one of our member organization – MENDING FACES that was founded in 2010 by a passionate, highly experienced group of medical professionals and others to make a life-changing difference for children born with facial deformities. Their mission is to help families with children born with facial deformities like cleft lip, cleft palate, and other deformities restore hope and have a brighter future. Since 2010 they have performed hundreds of life-changing surgeries in the Philippines and Columbia. With previous benefit galas, NaFFAA Region V was able to help fishermen and their families regain their source of livelihood by purchasing fishing boats in Bicol when the area was hit by a typhoon on a Christmas day; Helped rebuild an elementary school and multi-purpose buildings in Ormoc and Tacloban that were destroyed by super typhoon Yolanda; Shipped two 40-foot containers of medical equipment and supplies donated by Project Cure after typhoon Frank devastated the province of Aklan; NaFFAA and its member organizations also funded Gawad Kalinga Colorado Village (35 houses) after a landslide in Cabagan, Isabela, Philippines.  NaFFAA Region V takes enormous pride in all that it and its members have accomplished. Congratulations Chance Horiuchi!

The Havana BID Board has hired Chance Horiuchi for the executive director in-training position.  Chance will be training under current HBID executive director, Gayle Jetchick, for a full year to learn the ropes before taking over as ED in April of 2019.  Gayle can then semi-retire and drop back to part time or help with specific projects only. For the past six years, Chance worked as the Director of Business Development at the Aurora Chamber.  She is well connected in the Aurora community and has the business knowledge and energy to continue and expand the Havana BIDs programs.  Her first day on The Havana Street job is April 2, 2018. Community Responds to Rep Covarrubias

During the March 22, 2017 Colorado House debate regarding House Bill 17-1230, Rep. Covarrubias made hurtful comments that seemed to ignore decades of work intended to ensure that the consequences of Japanese internment and the “…race prejudice, war hysteria, and failure of leadership” would not be repeated in the future.
