Posted on Mar 24, 2017 in #coloradoasian, Leaders | 0 comments

During the March 22, 2017 Colorado House debate regarding House Bill 17-1230, Rep. Covarrubias made hurtful comments that seemed to ignore decades of work intended to ensure that the consequences of Japanese internment and the “…race prejudice, war hysteria, and failure of leadership” would not be repeated in the future. Here is the response from the JACL and a dozen other organizations to Representative Covarrubias’ hurtful comments: Click here… Here is a sampling of some of the recent media coverage of this story: http://www.thedenverchannel.com/news/local-news/state-representative-starts-internment-camp-controversy https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/the-fix/wp/2017/03/23/no-time-to-ask-questions-colorado-lawmaker-appears-to-defend-use-of-wwii-japanese-internment-camps/?utm_term=.0aca2c83f0f0 http://www.nbcnews.com/news/asian-america/lawmakers-respond-after-state-rep-appears-defend-internment-n737836 http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/colorado-phil-covarrubias-defends-japanese-american-camps_us_58d30379e4b0f838c62f5793 Thank you, Harry Budisidharta, former President of the Mile High JACL, Deputy Director of the Asian Pacific Development Center and Steering Committee Member of the Aurora Asian/Pacific Community Partnership, for your quick and effective response.  Rep. Tauers – Honorary Chairs – CDBF

Posted on Jul 2, 2014 in APA, Arts & Culture, celebrations, Leaders, Steering Committee | 0 comments

We are so proud of former Mayor and First Lady Paul & Kate Tauer, Founders of the Partnership!  They were recently named Honorary Chairs of the upcoming Colorado Dragon Boat Festival, slated for July 19th and 20th at Sloan’s Lake Park. They are beyond deserving of the honor, having had the vision over 20 years ago to connect in a tangible way to the Asian/Pacific businesses and communities in Aurora, CO.  Through the years, they have remained active as leaders and continue to build relationships with the Aurora Asian/Pacific Community Partnership — Kate remains on the Steering Committee to date — and with Friends of the greater Asian Pacific American communities. The Aurora Small Business Development Center, staff to the Partnership, adds a resounding YES! to this recognition by the Colorado Dragon Boat Festival (www.cdbf.org/about/honorary-chair)! Kate Tauer is pictured here in a beautiful traditional dress from the Philippines. Note, too, that the festival lineup for performers, races and marketplace is set.  Check the full schedule:...
