Steering Committee Meetings and Activities

The Partnership Steering Committee is…

…a group of community leaders who meet every fourth Tuesday of the month (with some exceptions).  The Partnership is governed by its bylaws and is a program under the umbrella of the Spirit of Aurora, a 501(c)(3) (www.spiritaurora.org).  To inquire about upcoming meetings, call the staff office.

The Partnership’s success depends upon the vision and commitment of its leaders.  The Partnership is intended to be Pan-Asian in its scope, with a particular focus on Aurora’s diverse resident population and business community.

At the Annual Meeting of the Partnership, usually held in April of each year, there is a ‘changing of the guard’, and the Asian Co-Chair and Co-Chair Elect take office.  This is also the inauguration of new members, nominated by the current leadership.  See the current Steering Committee Roster…

The city Co-Chair is Andrea Amonick, Manager of the Development Services Division and host manager of the Aurora Small Business Development Center.  The Aurora SBDC has staffed the Partnership for over 20 years, with a goal to become better acquainted with and service the many Asian/Pacific small businesses in Aurora through training and one-on-one counseling.

Regular meetings often include a “Focus On Culture” presentation, so that members get a dose of information about Aurora’s diverse communities at each meeting.

Other activities of the Partnership include a summer picnic at Aurora’s Utah Park and a Holiday Friends Gathering in December.  There is often a focus on APA film and filmmakers, as well as a goal to support APA educational efforts within the city of Aurora.

The Partnership is a proud member of the Asian Chamber.

The annual meeting in 2015 included a presentation by “Picture.Me.Here”, a photo storytelling program for refugees, featuring Founder and Program Director Brigid McAuliffe and Bhutanese refugee and teacher for PMH Birendra Dhakal.

Juliana Laughter, shown here in the striped top, was the Partnership’s Co-Chair (2014-2015).  Juliana planned the first international fashion show for the City of Aurora’s GlobalFest 2014, which was a wonderful success.  She gave other highlights of her year at the Annual Meeting and introduced the Partnership Steering Committee and honored guests.  Incoming Co-Chair Nancy Tan presented Juliana with a plaque of appreciation.

The Partnership wraps up each year with the Holiday Friends Gathering held in December, a fun event with good food and often a gift exchange.  Members and guests bring along a gift for our Burmese and Bhutanese refugee neighbors, also.
